“Woke up at 4:30 am and got on the trail around 6 am. Ate natural cereal, orange juice, peanut butter cookies, and banana chips for breakfast on the trail. Walked 5.5 miles to Sawmill Camp. The trail switchbacked [sic] and was very rough. Had cheese and crackers, orange drink, and cookies for lunch. Went to the rifle range and shot 30.06. I hit one of the targets out of three shots. We took cold showers at Sawmill. The water was extremely cold and the wind didn’t help any. We had macaroni and cheese, green beans, potatoes, raspberry juice, and peach cobbler for dinner. Everything tasted real good. For the first time since Thursday I brushed my teeth. Kyle almost drank his tooth powder.

I finished one roll of film but forgot to rewind the film before I opened the back. Stupid! Played buzz bang with the Ranger. The Ranger made hot chocolate. I tried to take the tape off the switch of my flashlight and hold a cup of Swiss Miss in my teeth at the same time. I spilt it all over Rick, Kyle, and myself. Had to wash out the clothes at a spigot down the road. While putting up the bear bag I saw the Big Dipper, Small Dipper, and Draco. Rick and others spotted a satellite. “

Scott Daniels shooting the 30.06. The overexposure is due to opening the camera back before rewinding the film. I like the effect on this picture.
I only lost one photo due to opening the camera back.

2017 Commentary

I remember Kyle Chelius relishing the cold shower since he was a believer in cold showers. If I’m overheated, a cool shower is refreshing. Otherwise, I’ll take my shower hot.
