I agree about not minding white responses. But I think Peele made it very easy for them to watch. It was so clear that all the white characters were “in on it.” So much that there’s a choreographed, in-sync response to Chris going upstairs at the party. And then the choreography of the bingo game, too. Every one of them was an active participant. So, those sitting in the audience could easily say, “I wouldn’t do that!”

I wonder how it would look if culpability wasn’t as obviously ubiquitous…and how responses would be different .
