Text Psalm 37: 1–13

Introduction: Last week we looked at Delight as the 2nd principle or foundational ingredient against Anxiety or worry. We looked at what Delight actually means and why it’s important for us to study and meditate on the scriptures daily

Today we will be taking a look at the Third foundational principle called Commit. Please bear with my grammatical blunders as this series is not premeditated.

[5] Commit thy way unto the Lord ; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. Psalm 37:5 KJV

Committing something to someone’s care is totally different from you handling it yourself.

You can see the sequence in which David details this layered foundations:

1. Trust

2. Delight

3. Commit

Paying a great attention to the order is very very important and it’s in order of priority. Let’s look at why we need to commit our ways unto the Lord

[5] Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. [6] In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Proverbs 3:5–6 KJV

Basically what David is saying regards committing your ways unto the Lord is not that you should sit idle but that you shouldn’t lean on your own understanding.

When you commit your way unto the Lord with every step and decision you make, you also make sure it’s prayerfully taken and guided by the Word of God. Solomon said in all your ways not just some, ACK God which is the same as committing it to Him.

You can have the knowledge or experience for something and feel I can do it alone without the Lord but listen to what Solomon says again:

[1] The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord. [2] All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the spirits. Proverbs 16:1–2 KJV

All yours ways seem sure? That investment or business you have figured it all out huh? Good work and job but you need to learn to commit it to the Lord because there are evil 👿 forces everywhere trying to make sure it doesn’t work.

[3] Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established. Proverbs 16:3 KJV

Solomon said when you commit it unto the Lord it will be established and when it’s established, you will be able to handle fretting and Anxiety before your Isaac arrives.

It’s that simple and succinct ❤️

How do you commit your way unto the Lord?

1. Prayer: This is the most important and effective way. You see that we have not really mentioned prayer so far in this series. To form a good foundation of committing to the Lord, Prayer takes the largest portion.

[1] And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; Luke 18:1 KJV

You have to keep committing it to God in prayer daily. Do not slack or relent

2. Ministry Work: You need do something for the Lord. What is your part in the ministry of the Lord here on earth? Stop saying I am not called, if you are not called you cannot even receive salvation. So while you commit your own way unto the Lord He wants you to pick up His own ways too.

Is that too much to ask of you?

In your churches, Christian gatherings online and offline try to be involved.

[28] Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. [29] Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. [30] For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28–30 KJV

You cannot say you commit your own way unto the Lord and you ignore the ways of God.

[5] Commit thy way unto the Lord ; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. Psalm 37:5 KJV

Here David recalls trust as an helper to commit. It’s dangerous to commit something to someone you don’t trust, you will just be full of doubts if the person can actually make it happen or not; it’s the same with God, when you commit something to Him, you have to Trust Him too.

Now David says when you do this, He Shall bring it to pass. You have committed God and He is literally forced to respond.

[6] And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. Psalm 37:6 KJV

Now you fret or get worried because the promises are not happening yet or it’s taking time or you see others especially unbelievers prosper, David is saying, He shall bring forth:

1. Your righteousness as the light 💡 This is awesomely powerful because when this happens, angels cannot pass you by.

2. Your Judgement as the noon 🕛 day which means the light that came forth from Righteousness will shine unto the perfect day. The strength of the Sun ☀️ is Noon Day. God will come in full strength for you.

What more can I say?…

Next week we look at our fourth foundational ingredients against anxiety.

Shalom and have a blessed week in Jesus name. Amen 🙏
