WWhile Ho Chi Minh may not be the most famous historical figure of the 20th century, he certainly made an immense impact that rippled across the globe and reached forward into our collective timeline many years beyond his natural life. For some, he was a hero and a savior. For others, a scoundrel and saboteur. Whether he is the object of admiration or the target of vilification, his actions brought about the realization of a state created by the people of Vietnam, for the people of Vietnam.

The road to making his vision come to fruition was not an easy one. Soldiers fought hard battles and the asymmetric style of guerilla warfare the North Vietnamese Army employed against US forces changed how nations wage war.

However, some of the most powerful tools to establish a unified Vietnam came from the names and language Ho Chi Minh used to create powerful symbols that evoked strong emotions in the Vietnamese people.
