Overview

Based on my research, Dairy Queen doesn’t offer a lettuce wrap instead of a bun, so we’ll have to forego this in search of a nutritious option. Regardless, we’ll stick to our main strategy of grilled chicken to reduce any unnecessary cholesterol, saturated fat, and sodium that comes with your typical fast food options.

Recommendations

Option #1 — Grilled Chicken Sandwich

The salad is better for more nutrition, but in the case that you don’t want a salad, this is the next best thing.

  1. Grilled Chicken — this chicken is grilled instead of fried, which means you’ll have less intake of bad fats, avoid losing nutrients in the cooking process, and reduce butter intake
  2. Lettuce — rich in antioxidants, prevents bone loss and improves heart health
  3. Tomato — improves heart health, fights cancer, and improves skin health
  4. Mayonnaise — mayo seems to get a bad reputation, however, if you request a quarter or half the portion they typically put, you will significantly reduce the calories, which are coming from good fats (monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats); in moderation, there’s nothing wrong with a mayonnaise
  5. Plain Bun — little to no nutritional value, but will help with keeping you full

Option #2 — Chicken BLT Salad

  1. Grilled Chicken — this chicken is grilled instead of fried, which means you’ll have less intake of bad fats, avoid losing nutrients in the cooking process, and reduce butter intake
  2. Lettuce — rich in antioxidants, prevents bone loss and improves heart health
  3. Tomato — improves heart health, fights cancer, and improves skin health
  4. Carrots — regulates blood cholesterol, improves eye health, and lowers blood pressure
  5. Red Cabbage — reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and contains many nutrients
  6. Skip the bacon. The ingredients list looks daunting, but much of the additives come from bacon, which we’re excluding from the order, so a lot of cholesterol, sodium, and bad fats are being removed from the nutrition of the meal
  7. Marzetti dressing on the side so you control how much is used (if any)
