Overview

Similar to Chipotle and Qdoba, Moe’s has very high sodium levels due to all the seasoning they use. Thankfully, we can find middle ground on which ingredients to include, so the key will be keeping our sodium and fat as low as possible by excluding the tempting options.

Recommendations

Quinoa Power Bowl — Full Order

Tip: make sure to split your burrito bowl in half (including the chicken, so the protein is evenly dispersed!) to allow you to eat the other half later to maintain stable blood sugar levels, which help maintain balanced energy throughout the day.

  1. Mojo Chicken or Fish — this chicken is grilled instead of fried, which means you’ll have less intake of bad fats, avoid losing nutrients in the cooking process and reduce butter intake. Request a double portion of chicken or fish so you can split the bowl in half and eat the other half in 2–3 hours or when you get hungry again. Both are lean proteins so feel free to choose whichever you prefer.
  2. Quinoa Blend — high protein for a grain and contains essential amino acids for a more beneficial, complete protein source. The blend includes:

Brown Rice — lowers cholesterol, helps digestive tract, and promotes fullness

Zucchini — improves digestion, manages diabetes, and lowers blood sugar levels

Sweet Potato — reduces inflammation, boosts immunity, and helps manage diabetes

  1. Black Beans — maintains healthy bones, lowers blood pressure, and assists in fighting heart disease
  2. Pinto Beans — detoxifies the body, improves the nervous system, and maintain blood pressure
  3. Guacamole — 20 different vitamins and minerals, improves heart health, lowers cholesterol and triglyceride levels
  4. Add Mushrooms — lowers cholesterol, prevents diabetes, and improves bone health
  5. Add Peppers — high in antioxidants, maintains eye health, and reduces the risk of chronic illnesses
  6. Add Onions — lots of nutrients, antioxidants, and improves heart health
  7. Add Cucumbers — anti-inflammatory keeps you hydrated and helps skin
  8. Add Lettuce — rich in antioxidants, prevents bone loss, and improves heart health
  9. Add Tomato — improves heart health, fights cancer, and improves skin health
  10. Remove queso fresco because of high fat and sodium with very little nutrition
  11. Remove pico de gallo because high sodium content compared to the nutritional gain
