Overview

Pizza Hut doesn’t offer salads, so this will limit our options and influence us to be incredibly strategic in which direction we choose to go.

Recommendations

Option #1 — Create Your Own Pizza

  1. Thin ‘N Crispy Crust — not much nutritional value here, but by getting a thin crust, we reduce the portion of empty calories
  2. Classic Marinara — not much nutritional value here, but not a huge hindrance in the healthfulness of the pizza
  3. Grilled Chicken — this chicken is grilled instead of fried, which means you’ll have less intake of bad fats, avoid losing nutrients in the cooking process, and reduce butter intake
  4. Spinach — improving blood glucose levels, lowers risk of cancer, improved bone health
  5. Green Peppers — high in antioxidants, maintains eye health and reduces the risk of chronic illnesses

Option #2 — Naked Wings (8 pieces)

The naked wings are the best option because it has the least amount of sodium, fat, and sugar compared to the rubs and sauces. If you absolutely need flavor, which is understandable, then try cajun style or ranch. These are the best flavors I’ve found on the menu that add flavor with the least amount of sodium and none of the sugar and empty calories that come from the sauced wings.

Tip: If a garden salad is available at your location, add it to this meal to get nutritious carbohydrates and fiber along with other nutrients. Make sure to exclude any croutons or cheese it may come with to reduce fat and empty calories. Additionally, request any dressing they offer on the side so you’re in control of how much is used (preferably none).

For this fast-food establishment, we look to a custom pizza or wings to drastically reduce the sodium and saturated fat intake. By creating our own pizza, we have better control of what’s going into our bodies. Two to three slices should be sufficient for satisfying you while not tipping the boat on your nutritional intake for the day.

A word of caution. If you look at the long ingredients lists for these two options, the additives are not ideal. That said, I believe these are the most practical options on the menu.
