An excellent essay, Harry. Thank you. I’m very fond of the late Christopher Hitchens’s response, in Letters to a Young Contrarian (2001), where he tears to shreds the Dalai Lama’s quoted assertion that, “I believe that the very purpose of life is to seek happiness.” Hitchens makes the point that the DL’s speech was, “a string of fatuous non sequiturs.”
