Adaptability is as important in the business world as it is in life. It allows individuals and organizations to navigate change, seize opportunities, and overcome challenges. Two powerful examples of adaptability, that represent both sides of the coin, are the downfall of Blockbuster and the inspiring journey of Chris Gardner, Their stories demonstrate the importance of embracing change, cultivating a growth mindset, and committing to continuous learning.

For Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph, this day in early 2000 was likely to change their lives. After multiple attempts to secure a meeting with Blockbuster, the giant of home entertainment, they finally received the call they had been waiting for. The two entrepreneurs had just arrived at a business retreat in the small town of Solvang, California when Blockbuster’s executives contacted them for a meeting at their head office in Dallas. They couldn’t miss this opportunity, so they rented a private jet to make it to the meeting the next day.
