Whilst at school I lived in Worcester and the daily rhythm of life revolved around the cathedral. Wherever you look in Worcester like many cathedral cities in the United Kingdom the cathedral can be seen from many miles away and from most parts of the city.

I went to King’s School Worcester as did my brother and one of my sisters, the school and the cathedral live side by side and the hourly chimes from the cathedral let us know when lessons were finished.

I even had one mathematics exam in the crypt of the cathedral which was quiet, calm and cool in a hot summer.

The cathedral is on a slight rise above the River Severn so above even the highest floods. Some years we cycled through several feet of water along the tow path to our playing fields just alongside the New Road stadium of Worcester County Cricket Club.
