Sales and fan ratings are combined to create the definitive guide
I like to triangulate information about books, films, and music from multiple sources to help me to chose where to invest my time. In this story, I combine sales and fan ratings to find the best business books of the year.
Best sellers
The New York Times publishes a list of the top 10 best selling business books each month. I calculated the top 20 for the year by scoring the ten books on the list each month and adding the scores over the full year. The score each month is based on the rank on the best seller list so that first place scored 1, second place 0.71, third place 0.58, and so on. (For the mathematically inclined the score is the rank to the power of minus one half.)
