The simple truth is that no one can declare themselves to be an artist. Some people become REGARDED as artists but this status has to be conferred by others and this status is mostly granted by those who stand to commercially benefit by this designation. Art galleries, record labels, publishers, etc.

I see art being done every day by stonemasons, landscapers, carpenters and others. A great deal of art happens in kitchens just prior to dinner being served. Or not.

Human creativity is ubiquitous and under-appreciated and handing over judgement of it’s worth to a bunch of self-selected experts leads to unearned income inequality and societal stratification. My plumber is an artist within his chosen medium.
