10 Star Speed Safety Rating

If you drive, you are aware of the 5 Star Safety Rating and are just as confused as everyone else when you shop for a new vehicle by the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) Safety Rating Sticker.

Watching advertisements on TV, we would think that every vehicle that gets a five star rating is the safest. The truth is after 40 years of NCAP the manufacturers have figured out how to manipulate the system. There is even a name for this, “starflation”.

There is a global movement to update crash protection and add collision avoidance into the testing in a single clearly understood rating system. There are all kinds of great ideas out there for measuring the detailed levels of each safety organization’s testing focus but there needs to be only one official measurement for the vehicle safety sticker that this is all based on.

Speed is the only measurement of performance for transportation.

Safety measures how fast we can go and live to be at the destination.

The clearer safety information is, the safer we become.
