You are wise to be fearful of anything but an all out, resounding smashing of the Trump phenomenon. In Australia, the campaign to ‘delegitimise’ the government of Australia’s first female prime minister, Julia Gillard, was relentless, pervasive, vile in its language and sentiment, and ultimately successful. We all saw her standing up to her key protagonist in her “misogyny speech”. Less visible, was the years of rabid disrespecting from the popular radio jocks, the vile pronouncements at public rallies, and the ongoing dismissive complaining amongst cranky old white men in bars and around barbecues everywhere.
