Future Schools
I read a suggested reading here in Medium and I disagree that in the future, schools will be a thing of the past. I graduated from what was considered to be a good High School in New Jersey. Back then, all NJ Schools were considered to be some of the best in the USA. Why? The Real Estate Taxes were the highest in the Nation and the Schools were a big part of the cost. Teachers in NJ were paid more than most anywhere in the Country.
Now that Governor Christie has done away with cost of living increases, the future may not look as bright for schools there, but he will be long gone and I believe the cost of living increase will return.
The point is: even though there are some very bad teachers in schools, there are also some very good ones. It is up to the smart student to pick the right teacher to follow.
Because 1 apple is bad, you throw away the whole barrel of apples? I think not. What you do is “Vet” the teachers better. Have testing of teachers even after they achieve tenure.
In the meantime, how about giving students that graduate the chance to go to college if they have the aptitude and make sure the price of college is not out of reach for the “Working Class Poor.” Wealthy and poor tend to be taken care of. Now that just working does not ensure you won’t live in poverty, I feel they are the group that need the most help.
