Hello World

Hello, my name is David and I am a student at the Viking Code School. In just over a week, I will begin the full-time portion of the program with my cohort and will be using this space to write about my experiences.

My introduction to coding came from taking AP Computer Science in high school and Introduction to Programming in college, which were both taught in Java. I remember these being some of my most challenging and rewarding academic experiences. After college, I worked for the Dartmouth Admissions Office, recruiting students, evaluating applications and managing the Alumni Interview Program. When the time came to move the Interview Program to a new online platform, I learned the basics of HTML and SQL so that I could understand what was going on behind the scenes during meetings with the IT team.

This experience rekindled my interest in coding and for the past 6 months, I have spent most of my free time taking courses, attending meetups and researching the world of web development. I have ventured into Javascript, jQuery, Angular and Ruby. I’ve made several basic games and made my way through a Rails tutorial. But this is just the beginning. Over the next four months, I will be learning a lot of new material and hopefully building some really cool projects. So let’s get started!
