Heroic Desire Of Man

One of the earliest desires I remember having was wanting to be a hero. All boys want to save the day. Men are not much different.

Every man has daydreamed about taking down the bad guys, saving people’s lives, and sacrificing his life for another’s.

On twitter we often see tweets about how we should make ourselves hard to kill. We train as hard as we can so that when and if all falls, we’ll be there fighting for those who we love.

We know deep down that all the training won’t stop a bullet, that we are fragile and can die like anyone else. But we still believe in man’s heroism and man’s calling.

We know we’re free to ignore it, but the call will keep sounding. The standard will still stand, and the vision will always be there to see. We feel men have fallen.

Where are our brothers? We ask. Men’s relations with one another have been strained. We’ve moved from our buddies. We’ve gotten married. We’ve isolated ourselves to get our lives right and have felt a severing that shows they aren’t.

The deterioration of our frienships has blinded our vision, making us question more than ever: What is man that Thou art mindful of him? We praise the lone wolf. The hero is lonely in many ways, but one thing the hero doesn’t lack: people to live, love, and die for.

Man as a unit, as a band of brothers has been cut asunder. A diaspora has taken place, but there are signs of a gathering together. The call is still sounding.

Many have said: Enough! Let us answer it. Let us walk together through the Valley of the Shadow of Death for that makes our lives what they were always meant to be: Heroic, Strong, Affirming, and Transcendent.

To the boys and to the men

Let’s be heroes where we can
