By now anyone who keeps track of digital media probably knows — or watched in real time — what happened at Deadspin, the popular sports-oriented vertical of G/O Media (nee Gizmodo Media Group, nee Gawker Media). The quick version is private equity firm Great Hill Partners purchased Gizmodo Media Group and its various properties including Deadspin, Gizmodo, Jezebel, the Onion, the Root, A/V Club and several others from Univision earlier this year, renamed it G/O Media and installed Jim Spanfeller as CEO.
