Turning Maslow’s Hierarchy on Its Head

At last, someone else saying something similar to what I’ve been saying ever since I first laid eyes on that damn pyramid!

My firsthand experience of living rough — and observations of the people around me — make it very clear that some people only ever function in the ‘higher levels’ — regardless of their trappings!

If Maslow meant anything, people taking vows of poverty would be wholly ineffective, socially inept, and intellectually nonstarting. Conversely, those whose comforts were fully met would be the most insightful, progressive and so forth. Match reality much?

For me, Maslow has become simply a useful idiot in the service of social darwinism.
