I felt like I’d actually read every negative criticism of classic films ever with that template. What is really interesting is that I never even noticed that those reviews were a template, consciously or subconsciously on the part of the authors, but was still able to utilize my critical analysis of the reviewed film to decide for myself whether the author’s criticism had any merit or not. What I’ve found is that those types of cookie cutter reviews, in my mind, fail to sway my opinion of a movie. In other words: these lazy authors need to do some actual work to convince me they are legitimate critics.
