This post is for any of you preparing for a behavioural interview (professional conversation) with an HR Manager. You may be struggling with the following -

  • Understanding key leadership skills which you will need to be confident in describing in interviews with clear examples.
  • Determining what your development needs/areas of development/weaknesses are in relation to your soft skills.
  • Developing structured answers in the form of the STAR (Situation, Task, Action, Result) and HICBU (How I Can Benefit You) techniques.

Responsiveness — the quality of reacting quickly and positively

A confusion which can often arise around ‘responsiveness’ is that it’s related to ‘being responsible’. This can be partially true, but as you can see from the definition, this isn’t entirely accurate. When we discuss how responsive someone is, we are talking about their ability to respond promptly in an appropriate and timely manner, in any given situation.

It’s very much connected to the ability to prioritise, and consider what is urgent and important based on the urgency/importance matrix
