Nope. You were actually just being giant jerks. You can try to “explain” it away, but Azer’s response was perfectly reasonable — he already had a project going, and you made it clear with threats that you would accept no answer but giving up a project he’d already named and started.

You acted as if you had a right to the name. And you started being bullies about it.
