Well done for picking up the entirely the wrong point from the article; and to your point; its all very well giving people the means of production but its a bit of a waste of time if you don’t bother to show them how; which is what happened in Zimbabwe (as well as the Soviet Union, China, Cambodia and elsewhere). Demagogues tend to be long on rhetoric and short on practicality, which was the relevant part of the example.

Oh, the pre- Rhodes population of Zimbabwe (the Ndeble) weren’t farmers; they were primarily herdsmen with some subsistence crops, different skillset altogether; and when Rhodes arrived they’d only been occupiers of the land for about 40 years, having wiped out the previous population (the Rozwi).
