That is absolutely not the same thing. Back in the day, getting a spin on the radio would generally lead to increased record sales and increased ticket sales for gigs. Which in turn leads to increased sales and bigger gigs and so on.
But today, streaming is the end point in many cases. If someone hears your song on Spotify, it’s very unlikely that they’re going to buy your album or check out one of your shows. Streaming is a dead end for the overwhelming majority of artists.
