Running Before The Wind
No, I don’t think that I’ll be doing that today! We’re away for a few days in Cornwall and the only running route (barring the road) is along a cliff top — probably not the wisest idea considering it’s (literally) blowing a gale outside. The hotel overlooks the beach at Watergate Bay so it makes for awesome views of the surf (not seen any surfers out today, which is probably a sign of how windy it is) but it doesn’t make for a relaxing run.
We’ve been staying at the Watergate Bay Hotel, a lovely venue that is a couple of miles outside of Newquay and has pretty much all you want for a relaxing few days away. I’ll admit that it seems quite popular with the young, affluent family set but there is plenty of space to chill out in various lounges (that all have massive windows and views) so that it’s not much of a problem. An added bonus is that Fifteen Cornwall is right next door so it’s really easy to pop out for a proper fine dining meal.
As expected, Cornwall is rather like the Scottish highlands with lots of scenery and not a huge amount else. So, in weather like we’ve had (rain yesterday and wind today) there is a lot of relaxing and reading going on. Although the National Maritime Museum in Falmouth is worth a look, if boats are your thing. But maybe not if you tend to bore your partner about the boats that you used to sail when you were younger…
So today’s outside run has been cancelled in favour of intervals on the treadmill. Hopefully followed by a swim and some time in the hot tub to ease my sore muscles. It’s a hard life…
