Ms. Damond’s shooting was a crime, among the many crimes perpetrated by LEOs against innocent and unarmed men, women, and children.

The claim in your story that there’s a “high rate of murder among Australians” is inaccurate; the U.S. has a murder rate four or five times higher than Australia. https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2017/jun/18/australias-rate-falls-to-record-low-of-one-person-per-100000.

(In fact, since Australia enacted gun control measures after a 1996 mass shooting incident, gun deaths there have dropped dramatically. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2012/08/02/did-gun-control-work-in-australia/).

May Damond’s death be a further catalyst to change the culture of violence in our police departments, and to spur further action to hold officers accountable for their acts.
