Seth, How do you account for the capitalization of the entire driverless car thing? The cars won’t appear on the street by themselves and the operators will demand a profit. How will that drive for profit affect the per-mile costs?
I envision that the operators will become their own oligarchy, possibly oil interests that looking to control then impede the transition, or even billionaires looking to accelerate the transition to force small players out, then raising prices.
This vision will never occur without Capitalism but history shows that when capitalists are left to themselves they will seek to consolidate their market at the expense of public interest.
