Not to forget John Resig codes better in his sleep than 99% of the people indiscriminately bashing jQuery right away.
And you even don’t have to work through “Secrets of the Javascript Ninja” to be aware of that (although you should do that anyways).
Maybe it’s a bit bold but I think the ubiquity of JavaScript would be unthinkable without jQuery.

And if you don’t find any monads in jQuery, you should go back and have a serious talk with Doc Racket. I’ll do that anyways (:
