Let me tell you friends, I have avoided writing this article for 5 years, but y’all are relentless.. so here you go..

It is the question that haunts my Instagram DM’s. It is the question that haunts our Facebook Group with over 6,000 agency owners. It is the question that everyone seems to want the answer to.. so here you go.

Let me start by saying that the best niche for you may not be the best niche for me. Every entrepreneur has skills, backgrounds, and passions that give them an unfair advantage in certain niche’s over others. Keep that in mind. What do you know more about than someone else? What do you do in your spare time?

Questions like this might be better ones to ask than looking for niche recommendations on the internet, but without further ado..

I present to you.. the top Niche’s for SMMA in 2022.

First, let’s talk about how I arrived at this esteemed list of chosen niche’s sure to take you to SMMA riches (with the help of a great course, of course..).

The criteria:

  1. It has to be evergreen — aka not going anywhere anytime soon
  2. It has to be big enough that after 1,000’s of agency owners moving into this niche, there will still be plenty of clients to go around
  3. It must be a niche that can be easily serviced with a simple strategy

These criteria are simple enough, but should certainly be questions that you are asking yourself when you are looking to niche down. They are the building blocks of a sustainable agency and one that is going to be able to be scaled to the types of levels that the average agency owner wants to be able to hit.

The beauty of the social media marketing agency / SMMA model and picking one of these top niches for 2022 is that you will have a resilient business. One that isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Pick the right niche and you can easily establish domain authority and build a niche little corner of the market for yourself.

The Top Niches for SMMA / Social Media Marketing Agencies in 2022

Fitness Studios / Gyms / Crossfit Studios

What do you get when you take a business owner who understands the value of social media, is stuck inside a gym all day training and coaching members or clients, in an industry that is inherently simple to run ads for? You get one of the best niches to recommend to anyone starting their journey with an SMMA / Social Media Marketing Agency.

Fitness studios and gyms of any kind are an amazing place to start for a novice agency owner. They are usually incredibly easy to work with, are usually keyed in on how social media works / understand the value of what it can bring to their business, but often times do not have enough time to allocate to managing it themselves.

This means that they are often times looking for an agency owner or partner that can work with them and help them grow their business because they are strapped for time. One of our first clients, ever, was actually a fitness studio near where I used to live in Minneapolis. We were still very new at running our agency at the time, but in only 6 months we were able to double their membership at their facility. Even with limited skills at the time.

This means that even if you are new at this you can get results with a simple lead generation funnel or a simple awareness ad targeted locally.

If you want to see the exact ad and strategy that we would use that is copy / paste, check out our program The SMMA Blueprint.

Local Service Businesses

First, let’s define what we mean by local service businesses. Here in the USA, here are some examples: Lawn care companies, home cleaners, plumbers, electricians, contractors/construction workers, etc.

This is an absolute sleeper industry that most agency owners overlook. I think that it is because as a society we tend to dismiss the trades as below white collar desk jobs. In reality, there are millions of blue collar workers out there bringing home far more in income than their white collar counterparts.

Additionally, like gym owners, they are busy filling their working hours with.. well.. work. They are at job sites, visiting clients homes, whatever it is. They don’t want to be spending all of their days on social media trying to use it to grow their business. These days, they have seen the value that it can bring to businesses in their market that have grown their businesses, they just often times don’t want to figure it out themselves.

This means that you have a great prospective market here of organizations that are often making great money with great margins, owner/operators that don’t want to do this work themselves, but understand the value that it can bring to their business.

The strategy here is quite simple. Run a google ad for people searching for the service to a lead capture funnel and redirect to a booking page to schedule the service — or automate their details to your client to follow up. If you want more information on how to set this up in less than an hour check out The SMMA Blueprint.

Health oriented foods or services

This is an industry that is absolutely exploding in demand. Brands are showing up day after day, and local businesses in this niche are being established every day. Where I live in Scottsdale, AZ, there is suddenly a healthy / vegan option on every corner.

This is a trend that is growing by the day, and is filled with business owners that need agencies to help them capture market share and grow.

Not only that, healthy choices and lifestyles are being increasingly adopted by consumers everywhere. This niche is only going to continue growing from here, and any time that a growing industry like this pops up it can be an amazing opportunity for agency owners to step in and help innovate and drive their marketing forward.

How to pick the best SMMA niche for you in 2022

I am a huge fan of playing to your strengths. Within every niche there are different types of business owners. Just because one niche is a “high ticket niche” for one person, doesn’t mean it will be for the next. It is important to understand your value that you can bring to a business and that the decision maker on the other side understands that value as well. I have seen people charging gyms $500 a month and others charging them $15,000 a month.

When picking a niche, the best advice that I can give to you is to play to your strengths. Now having run our agency for going on 6 years, I have seen endless amounts of agency owners come and go. Those that are successful focus on working with businesses that they understand or are passionate about learning more about.

What do you know about that the average person doesn’t? What do you have a background in? What are you naturally gravitated towards learning more about?

These are good questions to ask, and will organically move you towards niches that will be the most profitable for you.

If you want help getting started on your journey and you want someone who has been running a multi-6-figure (going on 70-figure) agency for over 6 years at this point, I would love to work with you. Check out our program here that covers more than I ever could in a blog post. Hope to see you there!
