You’re a football fan and you’ve definitely heard the rumours. PSG are serious about activating Neymar “Messi’s Heir” buyout clause of £196m from his Barcelona contract. That’s more than double the current world transfer fee of £89m Manchester United spent on Paul Pogba.

Below are 5 reasons why the Brazilian may take the next private jet to Paris:

  1. BALON D’OR. Lionel Messi just turned 30 and had one of his best individual seasons with Neymar again playing a supportive role. The former Santos man had lofty dreams prior to his move to Europe about being the world’s best player but him being in the shadow of Messi in the same team makes it two times harder. A move to a team where he is the focal point of attack and the main man will help his cause greatly as he approaches his peak at 25.
  2. MONEY. Barcelona are the second most valuable football club in the world according Forbes and have the highest wage bill in world football but they have no “sugar daddy”. Paris St. German aren’t even in the top 10 but the owners (Qatari Sports Investment) are so rich and akin to a trust-fund powered by the Oil Rich Qatari government. Weekly wages of ~£500,000, huge add-ons and bonuses can make the most loyal of footballers dream of a life in the city of lights.
  3. MORE MONEY. If the saying ‘more money, more problems’ is indeed true at least funds won’t be part of those additional problems for the Neymar family. Neymar Sr, the father and agent of Neymar Jr will get a huge agent fee for a deal this proportion and has been rumored to broker even more deals for his son; Private jet at his beck and call, face of the Qatar 2022 world cup, image rights, shares in a Parisian hotel and wherever Neymar’s marketability can stretch to.
  4. SOCIAL LIFE. Word around the internet street is that Neymar loves his Brazilian compatriots and doesn’t feel social enough in the Blaugrana dressing room because of the lack of Brazilians currently there. Countrymen, Adriano and Dani Alves left about a year ago and left poor Neymar with only Rafinha — who is Brazilian but grew up in Spain. At PSG he will be with Dani Alves, Silva, Marquinhos and will feel right at home to dance samba.
  5. CHALLENGE. The French outfit had to bat away Barcelona from stealing Verratti from them and are very determined to win the Champions League as soon as possible. Being part of something that historic and helping PSG break into the cult of the true European elites could be alluring to Neymar… or not.
