This is a great article, Ariel! Thanks for pushing it to the top of my reading list. I’m glad it begins to discuss the effect of sea level rise on available drinking water as well. So much depth of this discussion (pun intended).
Mario does a nice job framing the conversation around adaptation too, the cost of raising homes is prohibitory for most and isn’t likely to provide a solution on a city wide level.
Honestly, I’d love to see more thought leadership from the urban design community about learning to live with water. How can we make the city “floodable” and what does that mean for modes of transportation?
Parting thought…. there was an entire society living here before The West arrived. Might be nice to look at the way The Tequesta lived within their environment back before roadways and high rises.
