I would very much disagree with this metaphor. Language is merely a *tool* that diplomats use in order to achieve their goals and get around. It is a tool of their trade, same as what Sketch or pen and paper would be to a UI designer. Whereas a basic skill for a diplomat is negotiating.
What you did was to actually mistake skills for tools. Tools are a given, skills are attained. And we’re definitely talking about skills here, not tools.
Otherwise, you pretty much agreed with everything that Jesse said in his original piece, even though you started your comment with “I couldn‘t disagree more.” :)
