My Best Photo

This is Anne, my first girlfriend, and this is the story of me and photography.

I was 17, and Anne and I were sunbathing on a beach 12,000 miles away from where I am now. I took this photo with a Brownie box camera that took 127 film, and this is a contact print, all I have got now. Since then I have had lots of different cameras, 10 years ago I had a Canon SLR with macro lenses so I could zoom down to insects I could hardly see, telephoto lenses with a focal length of 600 mm, later an DSLR that could do more with a lot less effort.

But this remains the best picture I ever took. With a Brownie box camera. I now have only my Android cell phone, a cheap model that only shoots forward, so I can’t take ‘selfies’. I am glad of that.

I have given up photography.
