Unlike the internet, Bitcoin was able to quickly move from esoteric command line interfaces, like the one below, to more user friendly interfaces such as the Bitcoin GUI wallet and now things such as the Coinbase wallet.

I wouldn’t say it’s any different. The Bitcoin GUI and generally all Bitcoin interfaces including Coinbase’s are anything but user-friendly. We might find them advanced compared to previous interfaces because it’s our present time, just like a menu-based interface to the Internet was considered UI caviar back in 1993, but I think for most people current Bitcoin wallets are probably right in the 'esoteric' category.
