It certainly does. I believe there was a recent study (sorry can’t remember the title and won’t be able to link it) that examined the acceptability or crying in various cultures. Being brought up in an Asian culture as well, I was never really encouraged to cry too. But the interesting part of the current research is that the prevailing wisdom that crying is good for our emotional health is actually not very strongly supported. There’s no such thing as crying too little or too much. (Unless you’re crying more than us usual due to mental health issues)
