What I’ve learned in 11 years working at the Chicago Tribune

As a journalism professor, this is an interesting piece. It’s hard for students to realize the amount of criticism they’ll get from editors (and readers), and I love that you wrote about magic and wrestling.

One other thing to think about — make sure you’re reading work from a variety of genders, races, ages, and financial class. All your favorite books about writing are by men. Anne Lamott and Annie Dillard come to mind immediately.

Also, everyone goes through slumps when the writing doesn’t sing. You’ll find something that makes your fingers itch for the keyboard again. Good luck.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
