On September 14th, 2016, GitHub shook the world with their new “Projects” feature. It’s first-class support for project management. And it’s incredible.

You can drag pre-existing issues, or create new issues and add them to projects. If it’s not even worth filing an issue, you can add a note instead, where it won’t show in the “Issues” tab.

Let’s create a Project.

1. Navigate to a repository you have ownership permissions on

2. Click “Create a project”

3. Fill it out and Save

4. Select “Add column”

5. Name and save the column

6. Select “Add cards” in the upper-right

7. Click and drag issues into columns

8. Try Creating notes

Notes are a new feature in Projects which allow you to make smaller mentions of tasks or things to remember. They’re like issues, but with much less overhead to create since they are created within the project page.

Just select the “+” at the top-right of any column. Don’t sweat it, a note can always be converted to an issue with the dropdown in the top right.

9. Go sell your manager on using GitHub

With these new additions to GitHub, it’s hard to believe that any other option can compare anymore! If you are starting a new company or large project, these new workflow tools built-in can become a time-saver.

Let me know if you find any quirks of this new feature or if you can’t live without it!

*I was not paid or contracted in any way to support GitHub. I am simply an open-source software developer who loves the platform*
