Day 79

12. INT. DAY. COFFEE SHOP

I’m inside a major production company chatting with a Development Executive who was kind enough to have me, just to explain how things work around here:

ME

So, I’m pretty much annoying the hell out of people who’s been nice enough to respond me. I mean, that’s all we can do, right?

D.E.

I remembered doing that myself back in the day. Trying to get someone’s attention, to find a way inside. I know how frustrating it can be.

ME

Exactly. That’s what I’ve been doing, trying to convince people that “hey, I’m a nice guy and all, give me a chance and I’ll be a hell of a slave”.

D.E.

You’re that desperate, huh?

ME

Can I say that? Well, I cannot tell people I’m desperate, cuz that’s not selling myself properly, but I also cannot pretend I’m that cocky, you know? There’s a certain level of pretentiousness inside anyone who’s daring to become a writer, at least that’s what I believe, but you have to be careful not to cross that line. Same for not selling yourself too short.

D.E.

I understand.

ME

Although, South-Americans do make great slaves, I must add.

D.E.

ME

But I’m only saying that cuz I trust my capabilities, you know? I just need to find that opening door, I’ll do the rest myself to get me wherever I can.

D.E.

It is a matter of luck, at the end of the day. You just need to keep pushing and pushing, so you can finally find yourself that opening door.

ME

Pretty much. I just hope I live to become the guy my Spam box believes I am and not the dude from my regular e-mail any longer.

D.E.

ME

You know, winning contests regularly, making money out of nowhere, having the possibility to get his privates enlarged. That guy has it going for him!

She doesn’t laugh at my joke. She doesn’t do much, to be franc. Yes, it is awkward.

ME

So, how…how things work around here?

Day 79. Though crowd, Charlie.
