Yes, me too, the phone is useful this way, but then I actually get involved in email or something and don’t want anyone to interrupt me. I often make a trip to the toilet, which means I walk through the crowd and might be able to connect with another conversation. Sometimes I don’t want to come out of the toilet because if I don’t connect on exit then I’m stranded, having already used the bathroom excuse. So I try to delay in the stall, but not for long enough as I’m also fighting guilt I might be keeping someone waiting who genuinely needs the toilet. Steve Faulkner would stay put, have a moment on his own to look around for someone interesting to approach, why can’t I do that?
