Be careful here, that’s a great excuse line. There are way too many variables and way too much time may have passed for that line to work. So don’t try to hide behind it. You can’t change anything in the past.

Probably not too much of a difference, if any. How many times did your parents tell you something from their experience that you knew better that it did not apply to you — only to find out later (sometimes much later) that it did indeed apply to you?
