New Heaven New Earth Church Holds School Supply Drive for Fairfax County School on International Day of Community Service
On International Day of Community Service, the congregation of New Heaven New Earth Church in Fairfax put their time, resources, and strength into action to shine a bright light to the community through organizing a large school supply drive. The recipient organization, Lutie Lewis Coates Elementary School works hard to provide excellent education for the children in the Herndon area.
But it’s not just the children who benefit from the donated supplies; over 90 percent of US teachers spend their own money on school supplies and other items their students need to succeed. On average, educators spent around $500 of their own money on classroom supplies over the course of the year before the pandemic. That number has only continued to rise, with one analysis estimating that the average teacher spent over $800 out of pocket on supplies for their classroom last year.
Knowing the need both teachers and students have for new supplies in the Fairfax area this year, the congregation of New Heaven New Earth Church held a massive school supply drive. This project, with an exceeded goal of $5,000 worth of donated materials, was organized and donated to Lutie Lewis Coates Elementary School at 10AM on Tuesday, September 5th, 2023
Tuesday morning, school staff and church volunteers gathered at the school to receive and organize donations from New Heaven New Earth Church (See photo above). This is yet another way that New Heaven New Earth Church is shining a bright light to the local Fairfax area.
From community park cleanup initiatives, to food drives, and other local volunteering, New Heaven New Earth Church is always working to contribute to creating a healthier, cleaner and more loving local community.
