THIRTY MILLION
THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAT COULD BE DISPLACED IN BANGLADESH IN THE NEXT 80 YEARS.
Sea level rise is perhaps the most commonly known impact of climate change. As the planet is warming, the seas are expanding, mountain glaciers are melting and areas of the polar ice sheets are accelerating toward the ocean.
But of course, the critical question here is what does this mean for us? And is there anything we can do about it?
The short answer is it depends where you are. And unfortunately for the people of Bangladesh they are not in a fortunate position.
The country is a low lying delta, its fertile soils are delivered by the mighty rivers swelling seaward from the Himalaya. This naturally unstable landscape is already subject to extensive flooding, but climate change may deliver a devastating blow flooding 17% of its land with a one meter rise in sea level.

In 2015 we travelled to Bangladesh supported by UNDP to document the challenge the country is facing and to encourage global dialogue on the steps we must take to avoid the worst case scenario.
