Artificial Intelligence(AI)-Is the era of Machines coming ahead of its time ?Maybe Yes…

Even though there are millions of positive ways in which the application of Artificial intelligence(AI) and machine learning(ML) impacts humanity,my first blog is just collection some thoughts of what might go wrong in near future. After all it is such thoughts that separates us from them right….?

“It is not the strongest or the most intelligent who will survive but those who can best manage change.”

― Leon C. Megginson

GO was invented in China more than 2,500 years ago and is believed to be the oldest board game continuously played to the present day.

“Alpha-go”-This word still incites both the sense of pride and unease for many other people in AI World. It is the first computer program to defeat a Go world champion, and arguably the strongest Go player in history.Alpha-Go’s first formal match was against the dominating 3-times European Champion, Mr Fan Hui, in October 2015. Its 5–0 wins was the first ever against a Go professional. Many might ask whats there to fear about this, My computer beats me in a chess game almost all the time. That’s logical.

For a simple comparison: There are an astonishing 10 to the power of 170 possible board configurations i.e. more than the number of atoms in the known universe. Moreover its successor Alpha-Go Zero, surpassed 2500 years of human intelligence by playing several times against itself with zero human interactions.

These kind of news tops often these days, and many experts confirm that it is not going to stop ever. But is it a thing to be concerned about in the first place? It is a good thing that technology improves every day which results in getting us more comfortable life.Still Why does many experts in the field, and Hollywood portray this as something evil?

Let’s think about a hammer; it is obviously stronger than a human’s hand.A calculator is a million times faster than a human brain.Yet we don’t compare ourselves with it.We just use it or even break it whenever we want.It can’t replace us.WE CONTROL THESE TOOLS.

Imagine an artificially powered robot using a hammer and a calculator. In this case, it just replaces us completely and efficiently. Its hand might be stronger than hammer and its CPU might be faster than a calculator.

If we are replaceable, then at a point of time in future what are the chances that we might not be replaced. This thought might sound fictional but it is already happening.Smart phones have become our sixth finger nowadays. We hardly keep them aside. If we had the chance to operate and fix it with our body in the shape of the sixth finger or replace it for little finger, many would happily do it.

Other popular discussions include teaching the AI about human values. But admit it; our values are flawed themselves. We have destroyed habitats of almost all mighty animals without their approval. We eat them for food.We kill sparrows with just radio waves even without us knowing. We kill whales with ease even though they are hundreds of tons larger than us.We had proven ourselves on top of the food chain with just a little extra brain than Chimps. How can we balance the advancements that Artificial Intelligence will give us with the fear that it might overtake us?

Another important thing to concentrate is the term manipulation and lies.We are being manipulated every now and then.Corporate overlords spend billions in the name of marketing to get and tune people’s attention to profit. The company knows if you see the brand enough, you’ll form attachments to it and eventually end up buying.Moral Manipulation of human mind is necessary in some cases. For example: A mother(higher intelligence) gets her child(lower intelligence) to eat greens by telling fake stories or by making the child feel good.It is good for the child even though lying to a human child is morally wrong.

One of the important drawbacks of human mind is that it can be easily manipulated.A quick question arises, when AI becomes so good at understanding human emotions that it manipulates us enough to get a “yes” from us.It has not broken any rules here and yet got what it wants. That doesn’t necessarily mean that AI has motives of its own to build a kingdom. It’s just about the feeling that things might go wrong.

With the stats of immigration protests and civil wars it is clear that we have tough time adjusting between ourselves. In the life of humans, almost everything right from birth till death revolves around the popular phrase “SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST.” If a future machine learns the meaning of that phrase, at some point of time, you guess what happens next …..?
