Feb. 10, 2016/3:00 p.m./ DeMoss Grand Lobby
1. What places have you served in the mission field?
Lee served in Bolivia for three years and Peru for one month. She currently works in Fortmill, South Carolina.
2. In what ways have you served in those areas?
Lee has served as a first and second grade teacher. She also has served leading worship. She plays the guitar and sings.
3. How did you receive/recognize this call upon your life?
Lee did not grow up in a Christian home, so she found Christianity on her own. “ My call to missions was a step by step process,” said Lee. On her mission trip to Peru in college, was when Lee realized that the world is in need. “I realized that I was apart of something bigger,” said Lee.
4. What has been your favorite memory throughout your time serving in missions?
Lee’s favorite memories in the mission field have been her times spent with her Peruvian family. She describes the family as her “greatest gift.” Though this couple is not apart of her real family, Lee described the couple to be like her mother and father away from home.
5. On the contrary, what has been the greatest struggle that you have faced as a missionary?
Though Lee’s times in missions have more rewards than battles, she has faced some serious loneliness at times. According to Lee, serving as a single calls for much time spent by herself. Another struggle she faces is the high cost of missions. With all of this being said, Lee went on to explain that all of the struggles she has faced have been worth it.
6.In what ways, if any, have you seen God work through certain groups of people?
Lee recalled her times spent with medical groups in outside city. She explained how cool it was to watch through these medical groups how God was able to meet the people’s medical and physical needs.
7. Do you have any humerous stories you would like to share that you have either witnessed or experienced?
Lee mentioned how many times she has not only witnessed, but has accidentally said herself, “embarazada,” with the intention of saying, “I am embarrassed.” Lee then explained that the Spanish word, “embarazada,” actualy means pregnant in English.
8.How has the mission field changed you as a person?
Lee began by saying that the mission field has changed her in several ways. “Being a missionary has changed how I view the world,” said Lee. God has exposed her to other experiences as a stranger to cultures utimatley giving her a shift of mindset.
9.What is your favorite piece of scripture that goes along with your missionary call?
“Definitley Isaiah 58:11,” said Lee. Isaiah 58:11 says, “ The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.(NIV)” “This verse gives me comfort,” said lee,“God will continually guide you.”
10. If you could give a piece of advice to those planning to serve in the mission field in the future, what would it be?
Lee explained how flexibility and openess are key to being an effective missionary. “Be open as a learner,” said Lee. She also went on to say that it is important to be prepared to experience different cultures.
