How to soothe loneliness using solitude

My mantra when I’m feeling lonely is, “Loneliness is the act of wanting someone else to choose for you.” It explains to me why I feel lonely so often even in the company of others, and why sometimes I’m able to exist quite happily in solitude. These days, whenever I catch myself feeling loneliness, I recite that reminder to myself and ask whether it’s what I want to be doing. More often than not, the feeling shifts to one of peace almost instantaneously.
