The Collection: Nike Special Field Air Force One

The Nike Air Force One originally came out in 1982, and simply put revolutionized the game of basketball. With Converse being the main player in the hoops industry throughout the 60’s and 70’s, it was time for a change in the tides that would turn out to be the first step in the creation of the empire we know today as Nike.

The Air Force One provided that leap in basketball shoe technology with it being the first shoe ever to have an air capsule placed within the sole. The shoe was designed by Nike legend Bruce Kilgore, who’s considered a magician for what he was able to create here. Thirty five years later, the Nike Air Force One (named after the famous presidential plane), is still a factor in the shoe industry, and has taken its game from the courts to the streets.
In my opinion, the Air Force Ones made their official transition from hardwood courts to hardwood floors in 2002 when rapper Nelly dropped his former number one hit “Air Force Ones.”The culture went wild for these kicks, and everyone eventually either wanted or owned a pair.
Nike recently released a new addition to the Air Force One family known as the Special Field Air Force Ones, which are my personal favorite from a style standpoint. Although I couldn’t purchase for retail when they first came out because they sold out so quickly, I was still able to find a pair of the olive green version which is by far the cleanest color way of the shoe. I mean gah damn! Check these bad boys out:

Whenever I put my pair on, I feel like a million bucks. Probably why I wanted the green pair to be honest. The quality is on point with these shoes, and they definitely feel like a luxurious item when you have them in hand. A definite must cop for any sneakers head.
