President Trump signs bill in Reno that Dean Heller helped pass through Congress and cosponsored.

“One of my most important responsibilities is standing up for Nevada’s veterans.” — Dean Heller

Over the past few months, Dean Heller has been able to make real progress on behalf of the veteran community.

In Reno, President Trump signed a bill Dean Heller helped pass through Congress and cosponsored. The bill will bring a much-needed overhaul to the VA appeals process into law and more options to appeal their cases to the VA, allowing veterans to fast-track their clams.

Ultimately, because of this bill, veterans will have more money in their pockets and get it faster than they are right now.

“The signing of the Veterans Appeals Improvement and Modernization Act today is a win for Nevada’s warriors, and all men and women across the country who use the VA system. Those who have made sacrifices on behalf of our nation should not have to jump through hoops when it comes to accessing the benefits that they’ve earned. Over the last few months we’ve been able to make real progress on behalf of the veteran community. That’s due to bipartisan cooperation in Congress and the President’s commitment to support the men and women who have answered our nation’s call.” — Dean Heller

The President also recently signed another bill Dean Heller introduced — and that’s legislation to continue funding the Veterans Choice program. (Read more about the Veterans Choice Bill Here.)

The Choice Program is critical for veterans who need access to services that the VA cannot provide and ensures veterans living in rural communities, do not have to travel hundreds of miles just to reach a VA facility.

Another recent bill Dean Heller worked to make happen was legislation that expands G.I. Bill benefits, giving more veterans and their dependents the opportunity to pursue an education. Again, the President signed this bill — and acknowledged that we need to do everything we can to empower our veterans with the tools they need to succeed.

Dean Heller also urged the VA to help veterans living in rural areas and now the VA will change its process (as announced recently by Secretary Shulkin) for awarding grants under the State Veterans Home Construction Grant Program. This will help secure funding for the new State Veterans Home in Northern Nevada.

“I’m extremely proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish for our veterans and believe they’re examples of what we can achieve when both parties set aside their differences and work together. However, we still have a lot of work to do and we have a long way to go to fulfill our country’s promise to those who stepped up to the plate. After all, we have the privilege of living in the freest nation on earth because of the bravery of the men and women who have sacrificed so much for us. We owe a debt that can never fully be repaid, and we need to continue to work hard to make sure that we take care of those who have taken care of us.” — Dean Heller
