Higher, Further, Faster, More
The year is 2013. I have only started reading comics, about a year or so. I was reading old X-Men, X-Factor, Iron Man and a few others that were more “classic”. Now the strange thing is, I can’t remember for the life of me how and why, but I picked up Captain Marvel. I don’t even remember what made me fall in love with her or identified with her, but ever since then I have loved Carol and what she stands for. i can’t remember the single moment that I clutched on to her that it felt like I have been her fan for a long time.
Now, imagine my excitement when I finally heard that Captain Marvel was going to be made into a movie. And not any Captain Marvel, but the one and only Carol Danvers!
I was, and still am, so over the moon that my most favorite comic book character will make her way to the big screen.
I won’t claim that I am her biggest fan. By no means am I that. (Not that it’s a contest.) There aren’t a lot of things that I’m this big a fan of. There is only one band that I will ever go to a live concert for, maybe two (Paramore, maybe Sheila on 7). I have one favorite TV show that will forever and always be my inspiration and I can watch over and over again (Mythbusters). And there is only one comic book character that I will always try to buy merch of, wallet allowing (Carol Danvers).
My friends know that I am such a Carol Danvers fan that they can just give me a Carol Danvers comic and I’ll be damned happy about it. I have two copies of Captain Marvel and the Carol Corps and I didn’t spend a single cent on it.
Hence why I am so excited for the movie, yet also so afraid for my wallet. With the movie comes a lot of merch and posters and figures and so on. Cross fingers that I’ll have a full time job by then so I won’t have to starve to get all my Carol Danvers fix.
What is the point of all this rambling?
The point is that Brie Larson, who will play the one and only Carol, is teasing that she and Entertainment Weekly will be releasing something Captain Marvel related and I am so fucking stoked. Y’all, I’m ready for a trailer, an official photoshoot, anything other than blurry set photos and merch art. Give me my Carol Danvers dammit! I’ve been waiting 5 years for this.
