Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal Endorses Deb Haaland for New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District
It’s time we shatter another ceiling and elect the first Native American woman to Congress
As a bold Progressive Democrat and the first Indian-American woman elected to the House of Representatives, I am very proud to endorse Deb Haaland for New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District. It’s time we shatter another ceiling and elect the first Native American woman to Congress.
Like me, Deb got her start as an organizer. We both know the importance of building power from the ground up, engaging the grassroots in the democratic process, and that we are accountable first to the people who elect and support us.
Deb is a champion for the people, and I need her in Congress fighting side-by-side with me for comprehensive immigration reform, debt-free college, and economic and environmental justice — all issues about which Deb and I both are passionate.
We need more champions, and more women, like Deb who will fight relentlessly for everyday people in Congress. Please join me in supporting Deb Haaland for Congress, and make a contribution today.
Representing Washington’s 7th Congressional District
First Vice Chair, Congressional Progressive Caucus
Deb Haaland is running for New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District seat, and would be the first Native American woman elected to U.S. Congress. As the first Native American woman to chair a state party, Deb led New Mexico Democrats in 2016 to flip its State House from red to blue, expand the Democratic majority in the Senate, elect a Democrat Secretary of State, and hand a decisive victory to Hillary Clinton over Donald Trump.
Deb is an enrolled member of the Pueblo of Laguna, a former small business owner, and was the first woman elected to Chair the Laguna Development Corporation Board of Directors. She is a UNM Law School graduate and single mom to Somah, who recently graduated from UNM with a BA in Theater.
