As coaches, we have to consider ourselves as teachers as well. We get to influence everyone with a different perspective and this game called life and sometimes, perspective is a great refresher. When coaching athletes, I’ve learned over the years that you have to understand how to effectively communicate.

More than anything else, athletes will call you out on your bullshit from a mile away. If they don’t understand something or perform a movement incorrectly, that is the coach’s fault.

Lesson I’ve learned from training athletes is to say the same thing a million different ways for them to understand the concept. Sounds repetitive and annoying, but at the end of the day, it’s not about you as the coach. It’s about the athlete and ensuring that they are getting the best and most out of their training each day.
